Junior Watershed Scientist Day Camp

A FREE* experience for young scientists entering grades 7 through 9

Junior Watershed Scientist camp combines the best parts of summer camp with science camp. Campers will design experiments and advocate for the
environment, alongside ever-popular camp activities like swimming, fishing, archery, and games.

Junior Watershed Science Camp takes place at The Y Camp of Maine (305 Winthrop Center Rd), a beautiful facility located on Cobbossee Lake in Winthrop. Junior Watershed Science Camp takes place in their library, and we are lucky to have access to their waterfront for our aquatic activities.

Two sessions to choose from:

Session 1: Monday, July 8 – Friday, July 12 
Session 2: Monday, July 29 – Friday, August 2  – FULL

The project has an award totaling $127,198 dollars of which 100% is federally funded and directly attributed to project implementation. Cost: Free, thanks to a grant from the USDOE. This includes lunch, all instruction and equipment, plus a special session of Tadpole Patrol aboard the Friends’ 23′ pontoon boat, the OTTER III.

Registration: A completed registration and medical form is required to reserve a spot. 

Staff: Junior Watershed Scientist Camp will be led by FOCW Education Director Cami Wilbert assisted by Assistant Watershed Educators Maggie Stokes and Jackson Boudreau. Paddle boarding instruction and swimming activities provided by YMCA Camp staff.

Staff to camper ratio = 5:1.

What to Bring: A list will be sent to registered campers. This includes clothes appropriate to the daily weather, swimsuit, towel, waterproof boots, closed-toe footwear, hat, sun lotion, bug spray, morning snack and water bottle.

Per The Y Camp’s community values and our camp guidelines, campers who choose to swim must dress modestly.
