2020: The Summer of Family Tadpole Patrols

Even during a global pandemic, the Friends were determined to make the best of an awful situation! Every summer since 2004, the Friends have offered a variety of Tadpole Patrol programs aboard the Otter II, our 22’ pontoon boat, to children and adults and we wanted to make sure to continue that tradition this year also.

Although 2020 presented a challenge for the Tadpole Patrol program….it was a wonderful opportunity to offer only our Family Tadpole Patrol outings to families as a unique “staycation” adventure right here in the Cobbossee Watershed. Even more, the Friends had an opportunity this year to pay it forward by offering FREE Family Tadpole Patrol outings to some of our essential workers and program sponsors.

Each community member was pleasantly surprised and very appreciative of this good will gesture! Our Family Tadpole Patrol participants this summer ranged the gamut from families that had never been out on a boat to parents looking for an educational opportunity for their children and even two older sisters that wanted to see what Cobbossee looked like up close. (They own a house high up on a hillside that overlooks the lake, but they had never actually been on Cobbossee!)

All good things must come to an end and our last Family Tadpole Patrol adventure of the year was completed just a couple of weeks ago on September 4th. Even though this summer looked and felt completely different, I’m happy to report that the Friends were able to spread at least a bit of joy and cheer in 2020 to sixty-two family members that live within the Cobbossee Watershed and beyond! What an amazing way to end the summer!
